office [seoul]

by firm 151

floating above the bustle of gangnam-gu, firm 151 designed an office space forged by authenticity and craft. the parti leverages concepts of traditional Korean dwellings to organize the program throughout the existing tenant space. Following the principle of Baesanimsu, meaning that the ideal house is built with a mountain in the back and a river in the front, a block of service spaces create a symbolic ‘mountain’ while the continuous blue bench/seat/storage element meanders along the window edge forming the ‘river.’ Meeting spaces, anchored by a raised wood platform, frame a central gathering space open to city views beyond. Much like the traditional Korean Hanok housing, public, social spaces are centralized at the entry, followed by a procession of more private, internal office functions. the scandinavian roots of of this client come through in subtle areas such as the minimalistic materiality selected, using a combination of light wood, darkened metal, and glass for a majority of the space.
